Pathways of Courage: A Journey Across Remote Frontiers
An inspiring afternoon celebrating resilience, self-discovery, and the spirit of global exploration unfolded in Kolkata as The Universe Writes hosted French explorer, author, speaker, and member of the Société des Explorateurs Français, Linda Bortoletto. In a compelling dialogue with Esha Dutta, Honorary Convenor of North-East India Affairs and Ehsaas Woman of Kolkata, Bortoletto took the audience on a transformative journey reflecting her solo expeditions across some of the world’s most remote landscapes.
The session opened with a warm welcome note by Gouri Basu, Ehsaas Woman of Kolkata, who introduced the speaker and set an inviting tone for an afternoon centered on human courage and cross-cultural narrative.
Steering the conversation, Dutta engaged Bortoletto on her decision to leave a successful career as a Captain in the French Gendarmerie to pursue a life of exploration. The author of six books—currently based in Kolkata leading humanitarian initiatives while documenting India’s rich spiritual heritage—shared deeply personal insights on how wilderness serves as a mirror for inner healing and spiritual awakening. The discussion probed the distinction between physical travel and deep psychological pilgrimage, highlighting how vulnerability in extreme environments fosters profound strength, cross-cultural empathy, and creative inspiration. Her reflections on human connection in isolated communities resonated strongly with the audience, sparking an interactive dialogue on resilience and travel writing.
Concluding the memorable session, Anindita Chatterjee, Executive Trustee of Prabha Khaitan Foundation, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing sincere appreciation to the guest author, conversationalist, and attendees. Following the vote of thanks, Bortoletto and Dutta were felicitated with traditional handcrafted mementos in recognition of their enriching contribution to the international literary series.
