Aakhar Makes a Landmark Debut in Dibrugarh
Prabha Khaitan Foundation marked a significant milestone with the inaugural edition of Aakhar in Dibrugarh, making it the city’s first-ever literary event. Organised with the gracious support of Oil India Limited, the session was held at Cygnett Inn, Dibrugarh, bringing together literature enthusiasts, students, academicians and readers for an evening dedicated to the celebration of regional literature.
Aakhar is the Foundation’s flagship platform devoted to Indian authors writing in regional languages. Through thoughtful conversations and literary exchanges, the initiative celebrates India’s rich linguistic heritage while encouraging greater appreciation for regional writing and storytelling traditions.
The inaugural Dibrugarh edition featured celebrated multilingual author and translator Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi in conversation with noted poet and critic Prof. Satyakam Borthakur. Their engaging dialogue explored the evolving literary landscape of the region, the significance of language in preserving cultural identity, and the enduring power of storytelling across generations.
The session witnessed an enthusiastic response from the audience, reflecting Dibrugarh’s growing interest in literary discourse and reaffirming the importance of creating meaningful platforms for regional voices. As Aakhar expanded its footprint to the cultural heart of Assam, it further strengthened the Prabha Khaitan Foundation‘s commitment to nurturing India’s diverse literary traditions.
