Folk & Classical Arts

Through Sur Aur Saaz, the Foundation celebrates India’s rich folk and classical music and dance traditions by presenting performances that preserve, promote, and showcase the country’s diverse cultural heritage. The initiative provides a vibrant platform for renowned and emerging artistes while fostering a deeper appreciation for India’s performing arts.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation launched Lockdown Live, a series of virtual performances to support folk musicians and performing artistes whose livelihoods were severely impacted. The initiative provided artists with a platform to perform online and earn an honorarium, benefiting over 2,000 artistes through nearly 250 sessions across Bihar, Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, and West Bengal.

The Foundation’s translation efforts celebrates India’s linguistic diversity by making literature accessible across languages. Focused on bringing world class literature to Indian readers, the initiative amplifies voices, promotes regional publishing, and fosters cultural exchange. To date, nearly 40 books have been translated into various Indian languages.
